How many ways (permutations) can a deck of cards be shuffled? The answer is

52!

= 52 × 51 × 50 × … × 3 × 2 × 1
= 8 × 10⁶⁷

(thats 8 with 67 zeroes)

To give you an idea of the scale:

Humans on earth = 7 × 10⁹
Cells in human body = 3.72 × 10¹³
Age of Earth in seconds = 6 × 1.433¹⁷ So, if you shuffled a deck of cards once per second since the dawn of time, you still would not have had a repeat shuffle
